Body Parts and Melting Wax
Oil pastel and stick on linen

This is a painting that combined a live sitting with the construction of a model from a 3d-scan. After I acquired a good scan (using a Structure Scanner), I constructed geometric planes that could interact with the scan by containment and transection in the 3d-modeling environment Rhino. This construction of geometry relative to a figure stripped of color and texture compelled me to imbue this bust on a gridded plane with as much color and nuance as this individual possesses in both her outer and inner life. The translation of a 3d model into an image on a 2d surface also allowed me to play with the fluidity of space, where walls merge into floors and objects can occupy a position at once inside and outside.
