Hetty Rising

This is a portrait of an amazing individual who suffered incredible losses in a short 6 month period, and found the strength to get up and build a life, different but still resolutely her own. The mere fact that she could walk up two flights of stairs to sit for me was a minor miracle. After the sitting, she asked why I had depicted her as transected, and I built a quick sketch using her scan in a 3d modeling environment to illustrate that she was in fact not transected, but rising.
