This portrait was executed by an amalgam of methods. I invited a frequent sitter to come to the studio whereby I produced a pastel drawing of her on glassine. I then arranged various elements – the pastel drawing, woven canvas strips and cut dahlias – on a cyanotype fabric inspired by my conversation with the sitter and some personal photographs and mementos that she had brought in. I then rehearsed this assembly, in both physical and digital landscapes, before the actual exposure on the cyanotype fabric.
